Unit 24 Reading Activities Plus Questions

English for Snooker

Coach Steve:
Lisa, the England vs. China Snooker Tournament is here! You need your best Cue for this.

Lisa:
I'm so nervous, Coach! The Table looks huge!

Coach Steve:
Focus! Remember, it's just about potting the Balls. Let's aim to Pot a few in that Pocket.

Lisa:
Easier said than done! How should I start each game?

Coach Steve:
Start with a solid Break. Spread those Reds out nicely.

Lisa:
And after a red, I go for a Color, right?

Coach Steve:
Exactly! Each Frame is a new chance. Don't let one bad shot ruin your focus. If you make a Foul take a break and compose yourself.

Lisa:
What if I accidentally hit the white ball into a pocket?

Coach Steve:
That's a foul. Be careful! Don't Snooker yourself! Remember to Chalk your cue before every shot, and watch your Baulk.

Lisa:
Some of those balls are so far away. Is that where I use a Rest?

Coach Steve:
Yes, use the rest to get a good Bridge. Remember to aim down the line and trust your instincts.

Lisa:
What if the white ball is close to the Cushion?

Coach Steve:
Use the cushion to your advantage. A Long pot might be risky but could pay off.

Lisa:
Can I put spin on the ball like the Chinese players do?

Coach Steve:
Definitely! Use Screw for backspin. Forget Masse, we need accuracy first. This is Safety first!
