Unit 20 Reading Activities Plus Questions

Snowboarding: Conquering the Slopes

Coach Ramirez:
Today we explore the exhilarating world of snowboarding. Begin by strapping on your Snowboard and securing your Bindings to ensure a solid connection. Whether you are riding in a Terrain park or mastering the flow on a natural Slope, it's important to remember the fundamentals. In the Halfpipe, you can practice aerial maneuvers, and in the park, you will learn to Carve smooth turns. Occasionally, you might decide to ride Switch – that is, with the opposite foot forward – which challenges your natural Stance. Before hitting the slopes, take the Lift to the top and admire the pristine Powder beneath you.

Rider Alex:
I love the rush of gliding down the Slope as I balance on my board’s Edge. I enjoy trying a stylish Jib on rails and sliding across obstacles. Reaching the Crest of a hill gives you the perfect launch to catch some serious Air. Once airborne, performing a Grab or a Spin adds flair to your run. Sometimes, I even attempt to Slide along features or Switch back quickly when changing direction, always mindful to wear my Safety gear for protection.

Coach Ramirez:
Remember, snowboarding is not just about speed – it's about control and creativity. Every element, whether it's your Snowboard, Bindings, Halfpipe, Terrain park, Carve, Switch, Stance, Lift, Slope, Edge, Jib, Crest, Powder, Glide, Air, Grab, Spin, Slide, Switch back or Safety gear, plays a crucial role in creating a smooth and confident ride down the mountain. Embrace the challenge, and let your passion for the sport shine through in every run.
